A useful checklist for planning signs, banners and display graphics.
Start with the viewing distance. A sign read at a desk has a different task from a sign approached in a vehicle. Decide what someone must understand first and keep secondary details in proportion.
Measure the space and the support. Record the available width, height and depth; identify mounting points, obstructions and access. Replacement graphics must fit the specific hardware, so include photos and model information where available.
Describe the conditions. Indoor or outdoor use, expected duration, wind exposure and handling all influence material choices. Outdoor does not mean every material is appropriate for every site. The studio reviews the actual application.
Separate graphics from hardware. State whether you need the printed panel, a frame or stand, a complete system, or a replacement graphic. This makes the quote easier to compare and avoids assuming that accessories are included.
Prepare the artwork after the format is confirmed. Finishing, seams, pole pockets, trim and visible areas vary. Ask for the appropriate template. Keep essential text clear of structural areas, and have the final proof reviewed by the person responsible for installation.
